Quarantine rules for new students

If you are an international student and arrive at JFK (or any other airport in NYC) or EWR, there is no quarantine requirement.

However, if you come from (or via) a state that is in the quarantine list, you will have to self-quarantine yourself.

For example, if you have a connecting flight via Texas, you will have to self-quarantine once you reach NJ as Texas is currently in the list.

Hi Soumik,

So do I need to present a COVID negative certificate at any of these airports if the airline does not require one? Also, how much is the usual cab fare from JFK to Newark?

Thanks!

Hi!

As of now, there is no such requirement.

I don't take cabs as I have my car, however, you can check the fares on your app if you use Uber. I checked it for you; it's around
$100 (picture attached). Do keep in mind that the price can change.

Thanks! So I'll be travelling from Dhaka and if I land on JFK and take a cab/uber from there I won't need to self quarantine right? Also, do you recommend EWR over JFK? I keep hearing that JFK is a very troublesome airport (although I'll be saving a few bucks if I travel to JFK and not EWR), is this something to be worried about?

Thanks

As of now, there is no quarantine requirement for JFK and EWR. As you know, things change every day, so you will have to watch out.

JFK is the largest and the best airport here. EWR is relatively vacant, however, JFK remains crowded all the time. Other than that, everything is the same. It's just an airport where you will land and walk out. If you are worried and want numbers, since you are coming from Dhaka, JFK is A LOT better than the Dhaka airport. I have been to DAC more than 40 times since 2015.

Also, "self quarantine" in the US is staying in your own home (or wherever you are) without going out, not institutional quarantine, so it is not something to be worried of.

Thanks! This helps. Also, can you point me out to the website where I should keep an eye out for any quarantine related update? Also, there's a 10 day lockdown in Newark, do these lockdowns impact people landing on EWR or coming from JFK Internationally? (Sorry for the barrage of questions)

Thanks.

Unfortunately, there really isn't a single website that you can follow to know about the quarantine rules.

If you are a Spring 2021 student, the earliest you can come to NJ is December 20th. The lockdown period is only until the 4th and it doesn't extend to NYC/JFK.

There are no restrictions on international passengers as of now.
